The desirability of you getting hired as an applicant increases every time you send out thank-you letters after any job interview. When you apply as a medical assistant, the job needs you to be responsive and personal when you start taking care of patients to attend to. Giving a thank-you letter to the hiring officer gives them a sense that you take initiative and, of course, that you are responsive. It gives the impression that you are willing to do greater steps to get things done with excellence. This does not only boosts your chances of getting short-listed but also shows that you are interested and appreciative of the opportunity to have been invited for an interview.

What to Include in Your Thank-You Letter

Hiring officers go through a rigorous daily routine such as going through resumes, application letters (see Medical Assistant Cover Letters), seeing potential candidates for an interview, contacting the candidates, and taking care of the new hires. With all of these tasks and responsibilities at hand, hiring officers are most likely to be stressed by the end of the day comes. A thank-you letter received, whether through mail or email, will be greatly appreciated by them and they will know that all of the efforts they have done did not go to waste. Here are some things you should remember about writing a thank-you letter:

  • Send your letters within 24 hours after the interview.
  • The first few lines of your letter should express your deepest gratitude about getting invited for an interview.
  • Make sure you reiterate your administrative skills (i.e. patient follow-up and rooms preparation), as well as your clinical skills (i.e. recording vital signs, medical terminology knowledge, and medical procedures). Do not forget to highlight some of your interpersonal skills as well.
  • Avoid using slang and lingo as this should be considered as a formal letter. Use simple language and be straightforward.
  • Contact details must be visible in the letter. This will make communication easy between you and the hiring officer.
