Job Functions of a Stock Clerk

  • Checks the availability of different sizes, types, and volumes of each product and take inventory/note of the ones that have run out of stock.
  • Ensures that the stocks are arranged in an aesthetically pleasing way that will entice customers to buy or check out the products by styling the stocking shelves and placing appropriate tags and markdown tags if applicable.
  • Maintains the proper lighting of the store.
  • Ensure that all merchandise are devoid of any factory or handling defect, in which case, if there are any, he/she must also take the necessary steps to resolve this defect such as informing his/her supervisor/head regarding the defect.
  • Compute the price of merchandise after a memorandum or notice of markdown or sales.
  • Prepare merchandise for shipment.
  • Ensures that merchandise or products are transferred safely to the cargo vehicle that will take it to the consumer/buyer.
  • Keep an organized record of all the ins and outs of stocks, including the ones delivered.
  • Ensure that the customer has received the product delivered.
  • Work with the sales department, purchasing department, or other relevant departments in analyzing inventory and placing orders for stocks.
  • If engaged in clothing retail, he/she is tasked to dress bust forms and ensure that these mannequins and bust forms are dressed to attract customers’ attention toward the clothes being worn.
  • Identify potential merchandising opportunities and provide creative solutions.
  • Maintain and ensures the observation of safety standards as mandated by company rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Aware of loss prevention policies and informs management of any unusual internal and external activity.
