Aside from the responsibilities of planning and establishing production schedules, a scheduler’s task also includes monitoring inventories to know which of the stocks need to be restocked or if there are enough supplies on some of the components in the production line. He also has to ensure orders from customers have been thoroughly reviewed and distributed correctly to the production line for processing. To maximize the efficient distribution and manufacturing of goods, he needs to have ample knowledge in the production and processing and obtaining raw materials plus the production process, cost, and quality control.

Aside from reviewing and designating work orders and planning effective working schedules, a scheduler needs to do the following:

  • work in coordination with the project and program management team to maintain consistency of project scheduling approach to maintain accuracy in project execution and reporting;
  • responsible for defining and implementing schedules and management processes and procedures regarding scheduling conflict and changes;
  • troubleshoot and monitor scheduling problems and conflicts;
  • schedule estimation of new work, updated actual work, and remaining work;
  • develop schedule version control processing and procedures and ensuring that they are followed on product development schedules;
  • maintain accurate recording and paperwork and facilitating weekly schedule reviews;
  • supports the management team in planning, tracking, analysis, and reporting of projects and programs including maintenance procedures; and
  • integrating multiple schedules into one master project schedule.
