Besides transcribing patient health information and treatment procedures, medical coders need to identify and resolve patient billing complaints. This is because when they are not transcribing patient health information and treatment records, they have the double task of preparing, reviewing, and sending patient statements. They also need to follow up and report the status of delinquent accounts, and depending on the situation, they may forward these delinquent accounts to collection agencies. In this regard, they may also evaluate a patient’s financial status prior to treatment and establish the best possible budget plans that the patient can afford.
