What Are Forms?

1. Make a Layout

The first thing you need to do in making your forms is to draft a layout of it first. Remember, a bad layout would really ruin the effectiveness and comprehensibility of your forms, so you need to make sure that the format and layout of your form are well-fitted to its purpose and easy to understand. For example, a general message form requires a lot of space for the message and reply sections, so you have to provide the space needed by not putting in field tags that were not needed. 

2. Divide The Spaces Into Sections

For some people, it becomes easier to enter data in a form when it is divided into sections clearly and precisely. Separate sections like personal and contact information, work experience, work details, family member information, and other similar details so that it would be convenient for any applicants or signees to put information in the right field. Keep a separate line where you can put the section label on the top or on the side of each section for quick and easy identification. 

3. Write the Correct Field Labels

One of the many mistakes people make when making forms are repetitions in writing field labels, or for lack thereof. Make sure that when you write the field labels, they are correct and suitable for the purpose of the form. For example, if your form does not have anything to do with money, refrain from including labels that ask how much the signee’s salary is or annual income. If you are not sure about what you need to write, it would be best to search for references that you can copy. 

4. Provide Instructions

Does the signee need to go somewhere else to get someone’s signature after filing a form? Do they have to submit the requirements together with the form? Will they have to pay up before you accept the form for processing? If this is the case, you need to inform the signee of your business policy or house rules with instructions so that they will know what to do or where to go. To save paper or space, you can print the instructions on the same paper using the blank back side of the document.
