The Basic Elements of a Teacher Contract
A teacher contract or a Teacher Agreement Contract is used for the purpose of hiring a teacher to teach for the school. Its basic elements can be found below.
- Identification of the Teacher – This portion is always required. It is the means of identifying and confirming a person’s position in a contract or agreement. It helps prevent fraud.
- Terms and Conditions – This portion of the contract should highlight the conditions of a teacher’s employment. It also includes the teacher’s estimated a length of employment.
- Compensation – This portion of the teacher’s contract would contain the teacher’s mode of payment and its frequency. This means it identifies how and when the teacher will be compensated for their services and by how much. This portion usually includes the benefits the teacher can incur.
- Objectives – This portion highlights the teacher’s main objective and purpose of being in that school—to teach the students topics the teacher was hired to explain.
What to Include in a Teacher Contract
In a teacher’s contract, it can be said that it should contain a form of behavior contract or a code of conduct. This should be included because no parent will trust their children to a disorderly and ill-mannered teacher. So as to ensure that all teachers have the right mind-set, the use of a behavior contract is needed. Aside from that, it should also contain elements listed above, namely:
- Identification
- Conditions
- Compensation
- Objectives
- Signature

What Is a Probationary Teacher Contract?
A probationary teacher contract is a form of temporary Employment Agreement Contract in which, depending on the teacher’s progress report during the probationary period, the results will decide the fate of the teacher or instructor. It is a means of testing the teacher’s capability to work and teach students.
A probationary teacher is basically a temporary substitute teacher and is usually a source of new information on how to teach the students. However, probationary teachers cannot write their own Student Agreement Contract. They will require the help of either the dean or the head of the institution.
Why Is a Probationary Teacher Contract Important?
This type of contract is effective in ensuring that only the most competent of probationary teachers are selected for their continued employment in a school. It also clearly states the limits a probationary teacher has compared to a regular, full-time teacher, so as to avoid confusion or assumptions on the probationary teacher’s part.
