Basically it tells them who you are and why should they care about you. It’s one of the main deciding factors of your sample application as the committees gauge what kind of person you are by what you write on this essay. It showcases your traits and skills, your academic background, academic achievements, your experience in the field if you have any, and your writing abilities and qualifications. How to Write a Teacher Statement of Purpose

Writing a statement of purpose can be, overwhelming. Especially in knowing that it basically decides whether you get accepted or not. That’s why, we are gonna try to alleviate some of that pressure off of your back. Here are some tips to help you write a good and effective teacher statement of purpose.

  1. Introduction
Be sure to introduce yourself and the field that you are applying for. Write your story about what inspired you to become a teacher, and what motivates you until now. Tell them a bit about yourself, what you’re interested in, how you became interested with those things, and such. This part should only be short and to the point though so don’t spend too great of a time on autobiography outline.
  2. Emphasize traits and interests
Explain why you want to join and work on the field. This is sort of in line with your introduction, as you should talk about your motivations and what sparked your desire to do so. You should talk about your traits and unique skillsets you have acquired from the past, sell yourself. Show them that you have the qualities that make you a good teacher.
  3. Prove why you’re the best candidate
Write about your achievements. This is another area in which you are letting them know why you are the perfect candidate and why they should care about that. What piques your interest the most in being a teacher, what achievements you have to make those claims more credible. Also write about your own strong and weak characteristics. Include what makes you weak because it shows vulnerability, it shows that you have empathy and compassion that would make you a great adviser to your soon to be students.
  4. First draft
Like most things, you got to have a first draft. To be able to make some changes early on before submitting it. When writing your SOP you have to remember that you have to communicate who you are. This might be the only way to speak directly and openly to the committee so be sure to do your best. Make it unique and interesting, engaging and compelling, persuasive essay. Let your personality shine through, don’t just write for the sake of writing or passing.  Write as if you are sharing a significant part of your academic background to one of your closest friends.
  5. Reread
After writing the first draft, be sure to get it read by as many people as possible. Family, friends, neighbors, the delivery guy, anyone. This should help you identify mistakes and give you insights on how to improve them. Make sure that there are no grammatical errors, errors in spelling an punctuation, and other typographical errors. Get rid of the clutter and make sure that the document is as polished as it can be.
