A fond childhood memory for most people is staying up late at night to study for a big test the next. The less fond memory, however, is receiving the results the day after. Digression aside, the concept of testing is a valuable method of evaluation and information gathering. However, these results hold no merit if they exist simply as a product. That’s why businesses, medical facilities, researchers, and even the government record and report their findings for public use and information.

What is a Test Report?

Various industries have multiple types of tests aimed at tracking information like a bloodhound on a trail. But for every test, there is also a corresponding report used to present the data. For example, contractors run field reports on plots of land to see how safe it is. Hospitals also give medical reports to their staff to determine how safe or critical a particular patient is, and the list goes on. This is what a test report is, a platform or layout in which data gathered from a particular evaluation is presented.

Efficiently utilizing test reports is one of the things that make successful businesses top tier. Test reports provide valuable and reliable data on corporate aspects such as company budget, production rates, financial expenditures. Hence, the common practice of many well-known brands is to gather information through online surveys and questionnaires, and then present the data on a report format.

The Heart of Science

Questioning notions and theory testing is the heart of science, and its this drive for discovery that has led to various breakthroughs that established today’s society. From Benjamin Franklin discovering electricity and Isaac Newton’s laws of motion to modern-day gene splicing and various astrological findings. As a matter of fact, the process of testing limits and theories is the breeding ground of various marketing systems, advertisement platforms, and customer analyses. When stripped bare of its leaves, the branches of both scientific and marketing theories all stem from the same tree: the tree of knowledge.

How to Report Test Results

Creating a business report concerning test results is, surprisingly, very much akin to submitting a scientific paper. The writing basics and the pacing of information is relatively similar to one another. This means that as long as you have general tips in writing a report, you will have a quality output—provided you use a professional tone and acceptable language.

1. Use Appropriate Formatting

As both stated before and observed in the examples above, various test results utilize different formats. There is no reason to use the format of an expense sheet to showcase data from a background check or a nurse’s report for a project’s progress. It’s up to you to use the right outline for the document that you need—it also doesn’t hurt to do a bit of research.

2. Expound on Information

In much the same way no one wants to read a wall of text two pages long, providing only number sheets is impractical. As such, it’s best to find a way of “reuttering” the data presented into something more comprehensible. An executive summary that expounds on your information helps the readers better understand your point.

3. Provide a Methodology

No matter how well you write your text or how stupendous you format your document, it’s all for naught if you have no methodology to back it up. Reporting test findings is a lot like debating; if you have no evidence to present with your claim, it’s going to get shot down pretty quickly. As such, explaining how the test was done and even providing reliable references helps boost your report’s credibility.

4. Serve Your Conclusion

Though not all relationships end with some sort of closure, it’s best that you end your report on a strong note. Catharsis aside, a good conclusion should reiterate the main points of the information. It should also give more credibility to your data and have an impact on your reader.

There is a reason why a theory, marketing strategy, or a result is considered trustworthy when it’s dubbed “proven and tested.” Testing and reporting both serve as mediums of information that work hand in hand to provide data to the general populace. While one scrutinizes notions and meticulously seeks the truth behind claims, the other makes findings public and informs the world of brand new discoveries. While you don’t necessarily need to serve it on a silver platter, reporting test findings is an essential part of modern-day society and is a skill that entrepreneurs should be familiar with.
