Workplaces that involve machinery such as production companies and construction sites present several hazards that can cause serious bodily injuries. For companies to achieve zero-accident rate, safety measures must be reviewed and upgraded to achieve such goals. No company is accident-free however, so accident incident reports are important forms that must be ready at all times in case an employee suffers an accident at the workplace. Before emergency medical teams arrive, it’s important for company medics or first-aid providers to fill out the necessary incident form for submission both to the responding medical team and for management to be filled in on details.

Most official accident incident report filings are the responsibility of the immediate supervisor or manager in the department where the worker got injured. In cases where injuries incurred isn’t serious enough to incapacitate a worker, he should immediately report to his supervisor or manager, especially when there are visible injuries for immediate treatment. Users should take note, however, that an accident incident are two distinctive definitions that should be taken into account when filing a report. For user guidance purposes, an incident is a mishap that is classified as a “near-miss” that does not lead to personal or bodily injury but involves the damage to equipment or property or a damage to a client’s property.

An accident, meanwhile, is a mishap that causes injury to a worker or a couple of workers during the course of their work. These injuries may be as light as cuts and bruises to serious physical injuries like being maimed by a machinery, or in a case of a construction worker, falling from a building under construction or being pinned by heavy loads. In these cases, management may be compelled to stop the work in the meantime until such incidents are investigated and additional safety measures are being put in place.

Accident incident reporting are not only limited to companies and campuses. More often than not, big malls have seen several of its customers treated for injuries inside the mall premises. In this case, malls need to file such reports not only for authorities but also for their own internal safety precautions to prevent a repetition of such incidents. Over the years, accidents involving escalators have been reported with the worst incident happening in China a couple of years ago. In that incident a female customer was swallowed whole by an escalator’s mechanism after falling from a loose plank at the top of the escalator. Such incident was preventable and in that case, neglect of safety procedures was clearly the cause and the mall was legally held accountable for it.
