Steps in Building a Safety Strategy Plan

Step 1: Develop a Work Plan

To be able to properly plan with your strategy, the company or organization must assign a leader who can be responsible in committing oneself to the effort and to ensure how devoted they will be in getting into the big picture. Of course, there will also be a Safety Planning Committee, the one who will be responsible in determining if the strategic plan is ready to assist in performing the four tasks before proceeding. The four tasks include identifying the issues that the safety strategy plan must address, clarifying the roles, creating a plan committee, and identifying the information that must be collected in order to properly make a good decision.

Step 2: Articulation of the Vision and Mission of the Organization

The committee assigned in the safety planning must have the ability to articulate the mission of the company. The mission statement summarizes the what, how and why of the organization. The vision statement presents an image of what success would possibly looks like. If the vision and mission statement is already completed, it means that the committee have already been taking an important step in creating an idea that is related to the plan.

Step 3: Assessment of the Current Situation

The committee must make an assessment regarding the current situation including the strengths, weaknesses, performance, and information that emphasizes the issues along with the strategic plan that it must address. This includes aspect such as funding, new program opportunities, and changing regulations.

Step 4: Strategies, Goals, and Objectives Developed

All the strategies, goals, and objectives usually come from the combined ideas from brainstorming, group discussion, formal decision-making techniques, and the like. This may take some time since discussions and reevaluation of the conclusion needs to be done. It is highly advised that the committee should not have second thoughts on going back to the previous plan to take advantage of the available information.

Step 5: Complete the Safety Strategy Plan

This step is the compilation of the previously mentioned steps. Oftentimes, this step allows every planning consultant to draft the final planning document and submit it for review purposes. This is also the perfect step to be able to determine whether the document is needed to be translated into an effective operating plan to ensure that the priorities are sufficient enough to provide details that serves as a guide.
