There is a significant number of families who prefer to have their children homeschooled. This process involves simply teaching the child at home, normally by either parent or hired tutor. Homeschooling has begun in the 70s or 80s when parents prefer to educate their children at home due to perhaps financial issues, different cultures, or personal matters. The effectiveness of homeschooling relies not only on the parents or instructor but on how a homeschool schedule is shaped to ensure that the child is taught fairly and completely. Just like a regular school that also follows its own schedule, homeschooling isn’t anywhere different. To help you create the right schedule, let us discuss this further below. What Is a Homeschool Schedule?

Children who are homeschooled must follow a schedule to be able to accommodate their lessons. A homeschool schedule consists mainly of the agenda of the day. Planning for the day is important so we do not get overwhelmed by the tasks before us. Although sometimes schedules don’t tend to get followed, the purpose of having such would serve as a reference so we are reminded of what we should do. When it comes to homeschooling, you must remember that although the notion of studying and teaching a child is the same as if they were inside a classroom, your schedule must adapt to the current situation which is of course the more relaxed home environment. But basically, it may seem overwhelming at first to prepare a daily schedule but you just need to get things organized in order to start.

How To Create a Homeschool Schedule

If you think a homeschool schedule is like a regular school schedule, then most likely you may be correct. But of course, it has its difference as a homeschool schedule is geared to accommodate the environment of the student. There could just be one child or more, but not as great as the number of students at school. So each situation may be different, you may eliminate the fact that the child does not need to commute, the only thing he or she needs to prepare before school is breakfast and maybe a quick bath before the home class starts. But if a parent is determined to teach their child, then it is important to create a schedule that may help the child focus their attention on school and not the fact that they are at home. So to start, here are some pointers to help you create an effective homeschool schedule.

I. Organize Your Lessons and Activities

Prepare what you need to teach, and what interactive activities you wish to introduce to the student(s). If you have a handy lesson plan in place, then you will be able to plot down your schedule.

II. Age and Learning Abilities

Another thing you need to consider is the age of the child and how far along are they when it comes to their skills and knowledge. For example, a child has previously studied at school and you have decided on homeschool this means they have more or less learned something already. So your preparing a schedule regarding these facts should matter too. Should you teach them all together? Or one by one?

III. Create a Homeschool Schedule

There are several ways to prepare a homeschool schedule you can download our templates for easy reference, or start from scratch using the block schedule. The traditional block schedule is best for teaching specific subjects at specific times. You can opt to fill in the desired schedule and activities in the blocks provided and organize who and what should be taught in a given period.

IV. Alternate

You can experiment at first and see if the child is doing well with his or her lessons. If not another great alternative is to change or alternate lessons per week. Introduce different kinds of activities and approaches to make learning more enjoyable.

V. Monitor and Update

Having a schedule does not necessarily mean you need to keep following it, you can always opt to change and modify it. So monitor your student and how well they are doing, if the schedule seems difficult then make all the necessary adjustments.
