What Is an Affidavit of Work Experience?

The affidavit of work experience is a sworn statement used to verify the truth of an individual’s employment history and professional career. It is used mostly by employees who want to shift positions, apply for another job, or have overseas employment. The affidavit contains important information such as the names of the individual’s previous or current company, the number of years tenured, and their duties or responsibilities inside the company. It is a legal document that can be used as a secondary document to job resumes, and cover letters.

How To Make the Affidavit of Work Experience?

It is quite easy to create an affidavit of work experience. But first, you must have a purpose of where you’re going to submit them and what is it that you want to achieve with an affidavit. You also need to know how to format a legal document, especially if it’s your first time making one. Without further ado, here are some of the sections that compose an affidavit of work experience.

1. Complete Personal Details

When writing an affidavit, it is very essential to state your personal details for veracity. Personal details on an affidavit include your full name, complete address, mailing address, age, civil status, and nationality. Do not put aliases (unless you are working as a freelancer) and always state your middle name completely. With complete data, the company you wished to join won’t have a hard time doing background checks on you or performing quality assessments on your portfolios.

2. Provide Names of the Company You’ve Worked With

To provide proof that you are indeed someone with real work experience, including company names and their type of business. Employers are very wary when it comes to the veracity of employment histories, so clear their doubts by giving the correct company details. You do not need to provide a contact number as this can be included in the character reference of your resume. The employers will also be the ones to check whether the company you’ve mentioned in the affidavit is existing and is still in operation.

3. Include Job Descriptions

You do not have to elaborate on every single task in the affidavit. When writing job descriptions, write down the major responsibilities assigned to you during your tenure in the company first. If you have performed other tasks not related to your job position but still benefited the company, you can include them in your cover letter instead. However, check with the company first if they want a comprehensive affidavit or a simple one.

4. Incorporate Oath Statement

Just below your organic signature above your printed name, do write down an oath statement. The oath is your personal pledge that all statements in the affidavit are genuine and factual.

5. Get Notarized

To make your affidavit more binding and formal, bring your affidavit to a licensed notary public and have it signed. Plus, have it sealed especially if you need it for red ribbon authentication (visa processing).

What Is a Red Ribbon Authentication?

Red Ribbon authentication is a process of certifying notarized and legal documents for use abroad. However, it is now replaced by an Apostille.

What are the differences between a certificate of employment and an affidavit of work experience?

An employment certificate is issued by a company to an employee before the termination of a contract, official resignation, or when requested for a valid purpose. The affidavit of work experience is a jurat document where the employee states their career experience when applying for another work locally or abroad.

Can I ask a representative to file an affidavit for me?

Technically and legally, no. An affidavit is a sworn statement that should be signed by you. If you are required to file an affidavit but cannot perform the act in person, then have your representative go to the lawyer and ask them to draft the document which they can bring back to you for signing.

Writing an affidavit isn’t a tedious task, but not technically easy either. You need to have extensive knowledge of affidavits and the responsibility you have when under oath. If you are in the process of creating an affidavit, check out our wide selection of sample templates right here.
