What Are Job Descriptions?

A job description is piece of document that delineates in fine detail the specifics of a job position. It contains an enumeration of the following:

  • objective of the job position or primary function,
  • responsibilities or duties,
  • qualifications,
  • nature of work environment, and
  • the superior staff/person to whom the employee in the specified job position will answer to.

Why Use a Sales Associate Job Description?

A sales associate is involved both in the retailing or actual selling of products, as well as in the development of effective strategies to increase customer base. It is for this reason that if you are the manager of a business, you need to ensure that you hire a sales associate whose qualifications and previous experience match the job position best.

Other than those mentioned, a job description is vital for any business operations because of the following reasons:

  • serves as the basis for assessing the performance of sales associates;
  • basis for creating a standardized system for compensation, benefits, and incentives;
  • basis for enforcing discipline whenever an employee has failed to fulfill his/her duties; and
  • basis for training needs analysis that will then result to the planning of a training program that targets the current areas of the employee’s performances or attributes that need to be improved.
