Even if you don’t follow business news, you would have heard the term “market sentiment.” This is actually the very reason why trend analysis has been very important. If you haven’t seen the connection yet, here’s the breakdown: Market sentiment is used as a gauge for trend analysis. Based on the current market sentiment, forecasters will do a trend analysis based on predictive analysis of where the markets will go in the immediate future. That’s how trend analysis is intrinsically mixed with all the other forms of analysis that often work together to paint a picture on how market forces react.
Our Sample Analysis for trending will guide users on the basics of how trend analysis works. Some of the examples given are made in simple steps for a complete breakdown of how trend analysis works and how this is used to predict how the market reacts to certain events.

Statistical Trend Analysis
Trend analysis is basically defined as the practice of collecting data and and trying to gauge a pattern on the information obtained. It uses predictive analysis to try and spot future trends that, if such predictions are correct, will help companies drive their profit margins up and make more money than what they’re currently making. Predicting how the markets move has been the practice of many stock market analysts, and trend analyses have helped drive stock profits over the years.
The problem with trend analysis is that this can often lead unscrupulous traders to speculate on stocks to artificially drive up the prices. Trend analysis can therefore work in tandem with speculative trading to help drive profit at the expense of ordinary consumers. Case in point is the price of oil. Over the years, there have been no substantive evidence that oil consumption has increased over the years, but for some reason, market trend analysts seemed to have worked with speculators to drive oil up to its highest levels in 2008.
By May of 2008, oil prices have reached a record high of $137 per barrel while stockpiles have gone up. The law of supply and demand have totally been discarded and oil executives became awash with cash. Trending analysis seemed to have been thrown out the window and greed became the ugly word in the market. Thankfully, prices declined thereafter after level-headed traders and market analysts and overall consumer sentiment—and outcry—brought down oil prices.

Analyzing applicable data is the key to trend analysis. Determining which market segment to be analyzed is necessary to focus on a certain industry such as the auto industry or pharmaceutical companies as an example. Trend analysis also includes determining how the sector is affected by internal or external forces. Changes in the industry are taken as factors also since these will impact the market and analysts will then attempt to predict the direction of the market.
